Safeguarding
The Catholic Church has “a duty to serve humanity in different ways, but one way in
particular imposes a responsibility of a quite special kind: the Diakonia – the service –
of the truth” (Fides et Ratio, Pope St John Paul II, 1998).
The Parish of St. Mary’s Carlton & Selby is committed to the Safeguarding Policies of the
Catholic Church in England and Wales to protect children and adults from neglect,
physical, emotional and sexual abuse and to provide a safe environment for them; to
support victims and hold perpetrators to account.
We will always liaise closely with the Statutory Agencies to ensure that any allegations
of abuse which may occur are promptly reported and dealt with; victims supported and
perpetrators reported and held to account.
It is Parish policy that all those who work with children and vulnerable adults are
officially checked and cleared through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
